Gold rate today in the UAE
Today's Dubai shop gold rate per gram in dirhams, refreshed every 2 hours, and a calculator for the full price of a piece of jewellery with making charges and VAT.
How gold jewellery is priced in the UAE
A gold piece in a UAE shop is priced in three parts:
- Gold value: weight in grams × the day's rate for its karat.
- Making charge: the shop's fee for the work, either per gram or as a percentage. It is often negotiable, especially on plain designs.
- VAT: 5% on the whole price of jewellery, gold value and making charge together. Investment bars and coins of 99% purity or more are zero-rated.

Where today's rate comes from
Gold has two prices. The international spot price is what large traders pay for gold bars in US dollars. The Dubai shop rate, set by the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group and shown on the boards in the souk and in jewellery shops, is about 2% higher, because it includes refining, import and dealer costs.
This page takes the spot price every 2 hours, converts it at the fixed rate of AED 3.6725 to the US dollar (one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams) and adds that 2% to estimate the shop rate. The 22K, 21K and 18K rates follow the same ratios as the shop boards. The spot price is shown underneath for reference.
Gold moves all day, and shops update their boards several times a day, so the board in front of you can still differ by a few dirhams. Always confirm the rate before you buy.
Questions people ask
Is VAT charged on gold in the UAE?
Yes. Jewellery carries 5% VAT on the full price. Investment gold of 99% purity or more, such as bars and coins, is zero-rated.
Why is 22K the most popular in the UAE?
22K is pure enough to keep a rich colour and hard enough for everyday wear, so it is the standard for traditional jewellery.
How often does the gold rate change?
The market price moves all day. This page refreshes the rate every 2 hours and shows the time it was taken.
Why is the shop rate higher than the international gold price?
Dubai board rates include about 2% for refining, import and dealer costs on top of the international spot price. This page shows both.
